Norpac attends European Tuna Conference 2011 in Brussels

Thomas Kraft attended the European Tuna Conference 2011 in Brussels, held on May 2nd. A detailed presentation by Dr. Alain Fonteneau IRD scientist, EMERITUS confirms that many tuna species are being fished at or near Maximum sustainable Yield (MSY). However, the yield curve continues to rise, which indicates the stocks remain healthy and that with good management, will remain so. Underutilized tunas, such as Skipjack and Albacore remain abundant, especially in the South Pacific. Dr. Fonteneau stated that “Most or all tuna stocks do show a surprising biological capability to maintain stable levels of recruitment…”
