Norpac takes center stage for sustainable fisheries with its Fisheries Improvement Project for the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Marshall Islands.

Norpac’s Tom Kraft participated in an intense discussion at the 2012 World Ocean’s Summit held in Singapore. As a panelist, discussed the impact of fishing on the global ecosystem, the union of the scientific method with the fishherman as advocates, contribution of the NGOs, effects of quotas and a direct call to action by the fishing industry to become a catalyst for change.

A Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) for the Federated States of Micronesia and Republic of the Marshall Islands longline bigeye tuna fisheries was initiated in 2011 by Norpac Fisheries Export and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.  The aim of the FIP is to improve governance and fishing practices to augment the ecological and economic sustainability of the FSM and RMI longline bigeye tuna fisheries.
