New fishery improvement projects in Indonesia cover tuna, snapper, and grouper

Seafood Source - The Nature Conservancy has been working on Indonesia’s groundfish fishery since 2014, though the FIP was officially launched in 2019. So far, 10 companies have signed on to the FIP: Norpac Fisheries Export, Anova Food, Bali Sustainable Seafood, LP Foods, Netuno USA, Bahari Biru Nusantara, Graha Insan Sejahtera, Kharisma Bintang Terang, Solusi Laut Lestari, and Sukses Hasil Alam Nusaindo (Shanindo).

In the midcoast village of Port Clyde, at the tip of the St. George Peninsula, fourth-generation fisherman Randy Cushman has chased groundfish such as flounder, hake, sole, cod and pollock for 45 years—35 of them as captain and most on his 45-foot trawler, the Ella Christine.

Tech solutions to tackle overfishing, labor abuse at sea

Phys Org - Thomas Kraft at Norpac Fisheries Export established one of the industry's first bar-code systems that give each fish a tag that can provide details about location, boat, species, and weight. He's been using the technology in locations worldwide and says it could easily be expanded to include crews on individual boats to help fight against labor abuse.
